My name is Stephen O’Daniel and I am a 36 year old computer geek in Memphis, TN. I have lived here all my life, and have been into computers ever since I formatted my uncle’s Lotus 1-2-3 diskettes on his old IBM PC XT. No hard drive, two 5 1/4 inch drives, monochrome monitor. Those were the days.

I am a poet, a thinker, a teacher, a preacher, a geek, a nerd, and am counted among the wise.  I am all of these things, and none, depending on the time of year, placement of the moon, wind speed, and mostly my own decisions.  I have lots of things to say, and I am going to say them here on this blog.  I have learned a lot, and have finally arrived.

I love people more than I love technology, and that is saying a LOT. I want to be your friend. I know you have things to say, and I would love to listen. I believe in being there for people. I have a lot of love in my heart for my fellow man.  Come, comment on my posts, invite me to YOUR blog. I am happy to meet you, whoever you are and whatever you are going through or whatever you do or do not believe.

I work for a software company and my job can be hard to explain sometimes. Basically, I maintain a Knowledge Base and do authoring and editing of documentation intended for online distribution. Also, I maintain and moderate a community of our users.  I am busy, and never take time to blog during the day. stay that way throughout the day.

I have a sister who lives in Oklahoma City, and parents who live here in Memphis with me.  My roommate and best friend of MANY years is Kevin Young, who is an engineer with a Fortune 500 company. He is a baller! My other closest friends are Jon and Erin Howell, who I have also known my whole life; Carey and Megan Dickerson and their adorable son Luke, who are like family to me; Matthew Hascher, whom I have known forever; and last but certainly not least Todd Yarger and Jared Sandridge, awesome guys who are rocks I can depend on. I serve on the Data Team, its awesome.

I will introduce my other friends in posts to come. Look for posts the ‘About’ category, with the ‘Friends’ tag. I have several other very close friends to introduce you too, and I do this because I will likely be talking about them on this blog.

I am a Christian, and I am committed to working with other Christians, regardless of denomination or differences of opinion on biblical topics, to reach people for Christ. That being said, I am accepting of people regardless of their culture or religion and I have never let such things stand in the way of making new friends. So, no matter what you do or dont believe, you are welcome here.

I am straight, an omnivore (but i do so love meat!), and super into technology. I have way too many blogs, am a facebook/twitter addict, and read too many webcomics. Penny Arcade is awesome. I play Dungeons and Dragons, i LOVE to read, and I have a ginormous electronic collection of books and music. I am completely eclectic in my music tastes, I love everything except the really terrible types of gangster rap and the most corny of country and pop. And even some of that.

I am a movie fiend and that applies equally to the theater and my Netflix habit. I am an ex-MMO addict (now I have time to do other things like, live, but man do I miss raiding). I play Star Wars: The Old Republic, on the Tarro Blood server World of Warcraft again, on Moonrunner server but not excessively. I love to play cards, and occasionally host a small stakes cash texas hold-em poker game.  I smoke cigars occasionally, and I do drink socially (occasionally, and in moderation). I tried hookah and quite enjoyed it.

I love most types of food. From sushi to a juicy medium-rare steak, from gyros to pasta, I love food. I am a big guy. I love Coke, Pepsi is of the devil (haha).  I live in BBQ base-camp here in Memphis, and the pork is awesome.

I am not very tolerant of heat, I love winter and fall. I went on a kick-butt Vacation to Destin, FL a couple years ago. I am knee-deep in vacation planning for the rest of the year. I consider my Faith, my Family, and my Friends as my most treasured possessions (in that order).

Anything else you want to know? post a comment. I will add it to here. Do it!
